This is a children’s charity I donated to last year and I was more than happy to create a piece for this year. Using the A5 size watercolour paper that was supplied, I had to produce something on the theme childhood.
Last year I did a pen and ink and watercolour painting based on a photograph of me and my sister. It was one of our many outing to the park and we are both sat on a bench with our head down engrossed in the sweets dad had given us.
This year I knew exactly what I wanted to do. It was a picture I’ve had stuck up on my wall for a while which I have been meaning to paint. It was given to me by my friend Suzie who came across it from one of her friends and she thought it would make a really good painting. I loved the light and I could feel the joy and excitement as the ran through the sand towards the sea. This is what I wanted to be able to capture – the sheer joy the two boys would be feeling on the first day of the holiday.
I have used watercolour pencils and watercolour paints for this paintings.
